How to Install Thin Stone Veneer – 2. Taking Measurements

Before you install your stone veneer, it’s important to know how much you’ll need.

You can do this by calculating both the square footage and linear footage of your project surface area.

To get the square footage, measure the height and width of all walls or other surfaces you need to cover, then multiply the two numbers. Then, subtract measurements for any areas where windows or doors are located.

To get the total linear footage, measure the height at the highest point of each outside corner and add them all together.

For example, if you’re covering a 10-foot-tall square column, you’d need 40 linear feet of stone veneer.

We recommend you add around 15% of your total footage to account for waste.

In the next video, we’ll look at how to prep your substrate to create a proper base for your natural thin stone veneer.
